Aviva Investors Partners with Ripple to Tokenize Funds on XRP Ledger

Aviva Investors, the asset management division of UK-based insurance firm Aviva plc, has teamed up with Ripple in order to explore tokenizing conventional investment funds. Announced recently, this collaboration aims to leverage the XRP Ledger’s capabilities to modernize fund management and distribution.

The partnership marks a milestone for both companies.

For Ripple, a fintech firm specializing in cryptocurrency solutions for enterprises, this is its inaugural tie-up with a European investment manager.

Ripple has previously collaborated with financial entities in other parts of the world, but this venture expands its footprint into Europe’s regulated markets.

Meanwhile, Aviva Investors is dipping its toes into tokenization for the first time, aiming to blend these innovative tools with its established product lineup.

The two organizations share a forward-looking perspective, planning to collaborate extensively throughout 2026 and into the future to introduce tokenized funds on the XRP Ledger.

At the core of this initiative is the XRP Ledger (XRPL), an open-source, decentralized blockchain engineered for swift and cost-effective international payments.

Unlike many blockchains that rely on energy-intensive mining, the XRPL uses a consensus mechanism that promotes sustainability while ensuring rapid transaction settlements.

This setup is particularly appealing for financial institutions, as it includes built-in compliance features tailored for regulated environments.

Since its launch in 2012, the network has handled over 4 billion transactions, boasts more than 7 million active wallets, and is upheld by a diverse group of 120 independent validators.

These attributes position the XRPL as a robust platform for issuing and managing tokenized assets with real-world utility.

Jill Barber, Chief Distribution Officer at Aviva Investors, expressed enthusiasm about the project.

She highlighted the potential advantages for investors, such as enhanced efficiency in processing times and reduced costs.

Barber emphasized Aviva’s history of embracing innovation, noting that as the investment branch of the UK‘s top insurer, the firm is dedicated to adopting technologies that drive positive outcomes for clients.

She views tokenized funds as a game-changer that could deliver substantial value.

Nigel Khakoo, Vice President of Trading and Markets at Ripple, pointed out that tokenization is evolving from pilot stages to widespread implementation.

He believes that major players like Aviva Investors are now prioritizing the rollout of regulated assets on a grand scale.

Khakoo stressed the transformative potential for the investment industry, predicting that tokenized structures will introduce significant technological efficiencies over the coming decade.

The XRPL’s strengths—such as instant settlements, inherent liquidity, and security—make it ideal for supporting the next wave of institutional financial products.

This development reflects broader trends in the fintech space, where blockchain is increasingly bridging the gap between traditional assets and digital ecosystems.

By tokenizing funds, Aviva Investors could streamline operations, improve accessibility, and attract a new generation of tech-savvy investors.

For Ripple, the partnership underscores the XRP Ledger‘s growing role in enterprise blockchain applications, potentially accelerating adoption across Europe.

As regulatory landscapes continue to evolve, initiatives like this could pave the way for more inclusive and efficient financial systems.
