Tabletop games continue to be a strong driver of growth for Kickstarter thanks in no small part to a tight-knit community of gamers and their voracious appetite for innovative games to play. Apparently Inceptor has struck a chord, because the game has raised over $50,000 with a month left to go.
The board represents the inside of a dreamer’s mind, known as the Mark. (For anyone who saw the movie Inception, you see where this is going.) Players try to plant an idea in the Mark’s dream…
The key is to make your task seem achievable to the Mark and to make sure he believes it was his own idea from its inception. In order to do this the dream needs to be so real, that when the Mark wakes up, the planted idea sticks and he performs the mission without a second thought.
A Chemist Edition of the game comes in the silver briefcase pictured above and is available to backers at a $110 price point. For more frugal gamers, the board game without the case runs $59 during the campaign.
As for risks and challenges, it obviously helps that there is a tangible copy of the game pictured throughout the campaign. Project creators Pilot Study say that the final version will come from the same factory as the prototype but will be made of a higher quality. That factory is in the US within 2 hours driving distance of the project creators.
With 37 days left at the time of writing the campaign has raised over $52,000 on a goal of just $30,000, so it is already fully-funded. Credit a great campaign page, a bit of good press and what seems to be a challenging game.
