Just a couple months after securing £695,680 from its equity crowdfunding campaign on Crowdcube, UK-based energy-saving light bulb manufacturer, Plumen announced the launch of its new lightbulb, “Plumen 003.”
The company has created energy-saving lighting, using design and beauty to inspire adoption of sustainable lighting technology. Plumen reported that an estimated more than 130,000 homes in over 75 countries and is featured in the permanent collections of MoMA, the Design Museum, and the V&A.
Sharing details about the Plumen 003, the company noted that the new patent light bulb was designed to be used without shade and emits two forms light, which are a spotlight for reading and eating; and to illuminate faces and surrounding. Bulb lifespan is 10,000 hours. The company also shared that much like its predecessors, 001 and 002; the Plumen 003 is considered a “work of art in its own right.” It was explained:
“We designed an LED bulb with two functions: a downward spotlight to illuminate a table, book or other task; and a beautiful ambient glow to light the faces of those around it. The 003 isn’t only beautiful to look at: it makes you look more beautiful, too.”
Nicolas Roope, co-founder and creative director revealed in a statement:
“Sustainable design often lacks sex appeal – LED bulbs being no exception. We decided that to attract customers to this new technology we needed to create an efficient light bulb that was also inspiring and beautiful in its own right. Since our original idea, LED technology has come on in leaps and bounds. Previous gripes over light quality, color temperature, reliability, and brightness have all faded. In response to this, we set ourselves an even more ambitious goal for the 003: to design not just the most beautiful energy-efficient bulb, but rather the most beautiful light bulb ever, period.”
He then added:
“To persuade all those who still haven’t moved to low energy lighting, we knew we needed something really special to tempt them in. Something beautiful, beguiling, compelling. We needed some seductive sustainability. So for the past five years, we’ve been designing and developing the Plumen 003. Here it is.”
The Plumen 003 will be available in-store at Harrods on October 1st for the price for Bulb and pendant is £150/€175. Bulb only (exclusive from plumen.com) is £125 / €150. Check out the product’s video below.
