With less than two weeks until its popular crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter closes, Adam Poots’ latest project, Kingdom Death: Monster 1.5, has secured nearly $8.5 million from more than 15,700 backers. The initiative was launched last month and quickly raised its initial $100,000 funding target in a matter of minutes and secured $5 million in less than a week.

kingdom-deathAs previously reported, Poots debuted the game four years after capturing $2 million for the original Kingdom Death. It is described as a massive cooperative board game about survival in a nightmare-horror world. Survivors (i.e. players) fight for their lives against an onslaught of creatures. Players will use the objects acquired from various battles to build a fragile civilization in a place where humans are at the bottom of a monstrous ecology.

Poots revealed that he brought the concept for Monster to Kickstarter to make his gaming dream into a reality. While discussing the original game’s success, he explained:

“The runaway train of success helped pack the game with more original art, in-depth gameplay, and fantastically sculpted minis than even I dreamed of. A game this size could not feasibly be made without the community of supportive backers we found on Kickstarter. It’s too expensive to produce and too vivid for distribution. Through the experience of kickstarting Monster, I found a group of people that shares my vision for a blisteringly difficult game with a continually emerging story. I am truly humbled to share it with the world.”

Since its launch, the campaign has successfully secured its spot as number three in Kickstarter’s most funded game initiatives and is currently on the heels of the second place, which is occupied by Ouya (raised $8,596,474 from 63,416 backers). The Kingdom Death: Monster 1.5’s base game is set to be delivered in 2017 while its expansion packs are staggered to be delivered by 2020.

The initiative is set to close on January 7th.
