Nintendo Launches Crowdfunding Parody Site For “Game & Wario”

warioNintendo and Warioware Inc. have launched a crowdfunding parody site called Crowdfarter as a promotional stunt for it’s upcoming Wii U game Game & Wario.

No, people don’t contribute money like they would for a campaign on a traditional crowdfunding site. In this case users can unlock rewards by sharing the page socially. By “donating” your social media account (Twitter or Facebook) you can unlock perks like a desktop wallpaper and a game trailer.

The game launches on June 23rd.

In case anyone was wondering whether or not Nintendo was hip to the whole crowdfunding movement, it certainly appears as though they’re aware of it. Although this is tongue in cheek, I see it as a bit of vindication that such a large company would give a nod to the crowdfunding movement. I’m sure Nintendo has been paying close attention to the space as video games continue to play a huge role in the growth of rewards-based crowdfunding as a whole.
