Protos Eyewear Crowdfunding on Crowdhoster to Bring 3D Printed Custom Glasses to Consumers

Protos 3D Printed EyewearHold onto your Warby Parkers – San Francisco startup Protos Eyewear has taken the act of purchasing the perfect pair of eyeglasses to a new level. Crowdfunding on Crowdhoster, Protos is releasing a brand new line of eyeglass frames accompanied by their styling and custom fit service. The Protos Eyewear line is a service that allows a customer to order a customized pair of glasses. Protos’ software is able recommend basic frame styles based on the customer’s personality, face shape and other facial features. The chosen frame design is then altered to fit and 3D printed to order.

The crowdfunding campaign was launched this past Monday with a goal of raising $25,000.00.  The organizers have gone the self crowdfunding route using the Crowdtilt backed product Crowdhoster which is based off of Selfstarter.

Frames start at $199 for early bird backers.  Not inexpensive but then you will Lots of Glasses from Protosprobably be the first person around to have nearly indestructible frames created by a 3D printer you may want to consider these glasses.   For $9999 y0u get eye glasses for life.  All designed and  completed in the USA.

Protos reportedly spent years working with manufacturers to develop proprietary materials and production processes that actually exceed the quality of more traditional materials used in eyewear.

Good design is core to Protos’ philosophy and process. Protos has an outstanding commitment to quality control, from form language to materiality and surface finish. Protos is determined that every aspect of the design and user experience has been considered from the moment product development begins. Protos knows that good design is as much about how something works as it is about how it looks.  All custom fit frames are reviewed by designers before and after they are printed. They continue to work with the customer until the frames look amazing.

Eyewear is just the beginning for Protos as they see 3D production as a path for future products.   With 3D Team Protos Eyewearprinting quite the rage these days we can only imagine which printed product may be next.

The Protos team consists of Marc Levinson, John Mauriello, Doug Ponciano, Richart Ruddie, and James Peo.  Several of the founders were former classmates at the California College for the Arts.
