Smartwatch Kreyos Meteor easily hit their initial goal of raising $100,000 on Indiegogo and now their crowdfunding campaign has ended having raised $1,505,219 from 11,730 backers. Kreyos is now the second most funded campaign on Indiegogo to date. Kreyos joins the growing list of smartwatches which have gone the crowdfunding path after the Pebble Watch led the way last year by raising over $10 Million. Kreyos is now number two for smartwatch category – behind Pebble.
The Kreyos differentiated itself by providing voice and gesture controls along with the necessary smartphone integration. The device was slated to work with iOS, Android and Windows 8.
Wearable tech continues to capture the imagination of many and expectations are that interest will only continue to grow. Kreyos offered dozens of features and functions for backers expecting to receive on of the first Kreyos watches as a reward. The watch reportedly integrates with your smartphone allowing integration for answering calls or changing your music without pulling out your mobile phone.
Kreyos focused much attention on fitness buffs by including activity tracker features allowing it to compete with another hot crowdfunding category. Many fitness widgets are built into the watch. It is a truism that most people will be interested in a single device that accomplishes many functions as opposed to multiple devices for specific tasks.
Rumor has it that tech heavyweight Apple, among others, is working on a smartwatch as well. Apple has recently slowed down their pace of innovation allowing competitors to capture market share early out of the gate.
The Kreyos Meteor is expected to ship later this year in November. Kreyos has announced they will be launching a new web site at Kreyos.com this week to allow backers to purchase additional watches.
