The Ghost blogging platform launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter in April of 2013. The open source platform is totally written in javascript and promises true one button deploys. The crowfunding campaign wanted to raise £25,000 but the interest in this new application showed considerably more demand than the original ask and closed just shy of £200,000.
Now after the successful crowdfunding effort, Ghost and Bitnami have announced the launch of their product.
Ghost made waves when it raised nearly eight times the project’s original fundraising goal on Kickstarter. While many of the top blog platforms available today have evolved into complicated content management systems capable of building entire websites, Ghost aims to deliver a simple, elegant, mobile-friendly platform dedicated solely to publishing.
Ghost is a blogging platform boasting a number of user-friendly features including a dual-pane writing screen that shows markdown language on one side and a live preview on the other, a simplified, customizable analytics dashboard, a content management interface that is as familiar as an email inbox, and a number of social plug-ins. As an Open Source project, Ghost can be customized completely to meet a host of web publishing needs.
BitNami has developed a free, one-click installer for Ghost that can get blogs up-and-running in minutes. BitNami lets Ghost users deploy their blog on their own servers, in popular clouds like those from Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure, or with BitNami Cloud Hosting. BitNami Cloud Hosting makes it easier for users to manage their apps on the Amazon Cloud by providing automatic backups and monitoring, as well as one-click resizing and other features. A free tier is available for users running lower-traffic blogs.
“Ghost exists to make publishing simple and pleasurable. BitNami makes getting Ghost up and running simple and pleasurable. We’re incredibly happy to be working with people who are able to improve the initial user experience for our users by such a large margin,” said John O’Nolan, founder of Ghost.
“At BitNami, we are focused on bringing the best open source web applications to users, whether they want to run them on a local machine or in the cloud. We’re very excited to support the Ghost platform out of the gate, and are grateful to the Ghost team for trusting us as launch partners to help spread their technology to their fans across the globe,” said Daniel Lopez Ridruejo, CEO of BitNami.
