Crowdfunding on Indiegogo is something truly unique: A William Shatner Mechanical watch called “Passages”. Unfortunately the watch is not scheduled to ship until March 2014 so it cannot be a special stocking stuffer for this holiday season – but it may be worth the wait.
The watch is being made by the Egard Watch Company, and was created in collaboration with William Shatner of Star Trek fame. The campaign just recently launched with a goal of raising $75,000 and it stands well past that mark today at over $128,000. For a reward of only $375 you may own what is certain to become a collectors item watch which is marketed as a huge discount to their $1199 quoted retail price. There are four unique designs each at the same offer price.
Apparently the watch came about due to a chance encounter by Casper Van Dien, a brand ambassador for Egard, with William Shatner. Admiring Van Dien’s watch he expressed an interest in meeting with Egard founder Ilan Srulovicz. After an extended discussion with Shatner about watches, horology and certainly many other topics the relationship grew until the idea of a partnership was formed to create this unique timepiece.
“Bill” and Ilan embarked on a year long journey to build his signature timepiece which is dedicated to his grandchildren. And now you too can enjoy their shared vision.
The crowdfunding campaign ends on December 27th.
