On Crowdtilt: A Legal Defense Fund For Alleged SilkRoad Founder Ross Ulbricht

silk-road-logoA variety of crowdfunding efforts have been launched seeking funding for Ross Ulbricht’s legal defense fund.

Ross Ulbricht recently made headlines when he was arrested in conjunction with an investigation into dark web drug marketplace SilkRoad. Ulbricht is accused of being “Dread Pirate Roberts,” the pseudonym-protected founder behind the site.

On SilkRoad, users could go and purchase illicit drugs to have them shipped to an address of their choice.

Friends and family of Ulbricht have organized a legal defense fund in his name and are seeking $500,000 in an effort to secure freedom for the embattled man. A campaign has been launched on Crowdtilt. The fund is also accepting donations at FreeRoss.org. Bitcoin donations are also being accepted in an unaffiliated play at rossulbricht.org. The latter effort has secured BTC 16.5 to date.

As for the Crowdtilt campaign, it has raised $2,500, tilts at $10,000 and has a goal of raising the full amount of $500,000.
