Crowdfund Insider reported earlier today that Neil Young was preparing to launch their crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter later this week. Well it appears that we were a bit off as the campaign has just launched.
Young and his team just launched on Kickstarter and they are crowdfunding $800,000 for the PonoMusic device and service. The campaign rocketed out of the gate immediately jumping over $150,000 and continues to climb. The pitch video – posted below – includes testimonials of just about every rock star ever. Seriously – 11 minutes and 47 seconds of rock star love.
Pono’s mission is to provide the best digital music listening experience ever. If you pledge $300 (or more) you will have the opportunity to decide for yourself in October of this year. Also – if you are curious – Pono is Hawaiin for righteous, and Young is on a quest to produce a righteous music device – where you no longer have to choose between quality and convenience.
UPDATE: Well that was fast. $0 to $800,000 in less than 24 hours. The crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter has not even made it a single day as it cruises towards the $1 million mark. As it stands right now over 2500 backers have come together to easily surpass the goal. 34 more days to go.
UPDATE 2: So Pono launched yesterday looking to raise their $800k but that number was quickly shredded and stands 2X that number now at over $1.6 million. With this type of momentum they have already proven consumer interest the question is now – how high can it go?
