Australian employment website CareerOne has announced their intention to launch a crowdfunding platform sometime this year, but they won’t go it alone. CareerOne CEO Karen Lawson told Business Insider Australia that the platform is looking to team with an existing rewards-based crowdfunding site.
Her comments allude to what the play may shape up to look like. She said, “We’ve spent a lot of time over the last 12 months building communities within industry verticals – [for example,] healthcare, mining – they’ve all got their own websites and Facebook communities.
“So if you’re an engineer with a great idea for an engineering business or a project that could make a difference in that world, that community that we have would get it – they would understand and want you to be successful.”
CareerOne would seek to match those with an idea and a crowd that believes in said idea via rewards-based crowdfunding campaigns. The move is said to be a small part of a larger pivot by CareerOne from an employment board to a digital media business.
