Taiwanese Crowdfunding Project Stair-Rover Skateboard Hits $700K on ZecZec

Taiwanese designer Po-Chi Lai recently launched a longboard project called the Stair-Rover on the Taiwanese-based allrovercrowdfunding website zeczec.  The campaign has quickly surpassed its goal, securing $700K in funding from over 1500 supporters.   According to zeczec, the campaign is one of the biggest crowdfunding projects in Asia, skating by competitor Boosted Boards.  40 days remain on All-Rover’s project and the platform hopes that the campaign might become the largest crowdfunding project in Asia.

Stair-Rover is a longboard made to surf the city. Discounted preorders are being taken on the company’s website for $199, a $50 savings for the first 500 orders.   Its 8-wheeled chassis is designed for urban terrain and glides down stairs, enabling significant impact reduction caused by rough surfaces and unpredictable terrain.

stair-roverIt’s that same mechanism that gives the Stair-Rover its name. Reach the top of a flight of stairs and simply keep going – let gravity and the patent-pending V-frame design do the rest. The wheels bounce up and down independently and conform to the shape of each step. It’s a balancing act that gives the board its crab-like scuttle and gives you a butter-smooth ride to the bottom.

Stair-Rover features include:

  • A ply maple deck with handle for easy carryingstair-rover
  • Custom 50 degree aluminum trucks for more turning
  • Heavy duty and flexible V-frames (load up to 1000kg)
  • Engineering thermoplastic chassis with shock absorbers for enjoyable ride
  • 8 wheels, 60mm 80a super high rebounce
  • CNC aluminium foot-stop
  • Weight 4 kg / 9 lbs
  • Length: 80cm | Width: 25cm | Height: 12cm

Additional Q&A provided by Allover:

What is the difference between the Stair-Rover seen in action last year and the latest design?

0720-psThe new design makes the board lighter, stronger, and more agile. We have worked hard for last 24 months to improve the performance of the Stair-Rover in all kinds of conditions. We selected a better material for the chassis to increase maneuverability and durability of the Stair-Rover. The angle of pivot axle has been changed to 50 degree for better turnability. The deck height and other component details have also been redesigned to simplify the product and improve performance when surfing over various urban terrain.

Can I push the Stair-Rover like a traditional longboard?

Yes, it acts just like a traditional longboard on flat surfaces and slopes. You will also discover that the Stair-Rover performs much better than traditional longboards on rougher surfaces.

Can I do tricks with the Stair-Rover?

Yes. Our test riders have tried many existing skateboard / longboard tricks using the Stair-Rover. But all skateboards / longboards are designed for different interests and circumstances. You may find Stair-Rover unable to perform some tricks as good as other longboards. You also may find Stair-Rover capable to do some actions no others can do. We can’t wait to see you invent new tricks using the Stair-Rover, and name it with your own style.

Can I replace components of my Stair-Rover at a later date?

Buyers can replace: bearings, wheels, bushings, grip tape, and even the deck. However, changing components may affect the quality of performance of the Stair-Rover.

All-Rover’s zeczec crowdfunding campaign ends on 20 October.
