Blue Mountain State: The Movie, is based off the incredibly popular television series that ran on Spike TV for three years. The project was reanimated by creator Eric Falconer by hitting the pages of Kickstarter where he crowdfunded $1.9 million. Blue Mountain State is the 3rd most funded film ever on Kickstarter – just after Veronica Mars and Wish I Was Here. Last time we heard from Falconer he was gearing up for production in Montreal (for a film about US College Students) but in need of additional funds. Last we heard from Falconer he was short on funds and in need of additional investors. Well recently three things have changed and Falconer shared it in an update to supporters.
First Falconer stated he has secured additional investors so the film is officially green lit and filming is expected to commence this coming November. Cast, script, director and production crew are all in place.
The second piece of news was the fact that filming will now take place in Charleston, South Carolina.
Falconer explained the switch was generated by a trip to Quebec this past July where they discovered the Goat House had been “boarded up”. That plus a leaky roof and some nasty mold made it uninhabitable for the BMS alums. Cost to fix and repair equaled too much time and too much money. Well at least they “don’t have to pretend [they’re] in the US anymore”. Plus the weather should be nicer in South Carolina in mid November too.
The final important piece of news is they lost their director. Jay Chandrasekhar was announced with much fanfare is no longer going to direct the film as he apparently has a “conflict” with his schedule. What could be more important than filming BMS the Movie? I certainly don’t know. In his place they have lined up Lev Spiro who previously directed several BMS episodes.
