It’s the gift that just keeps giving… and giving… and continuing to give until either its batteries die or you find a way to destroy it. California brothers Travis and Nick Peterson recently took to popular reward-based platform Kickstarter to raise only $7,500 for the “best prank birthday card ever.”
The Joker Birthday card is described as a musical card that NEVER STOPS PLAYING. It’s cheerful music is long lasting and can be heard anytime, anywhere for days and nights. Explaining how the card works, the funny duo wrote:
“It’s very simple. Your card is delivered to you in a ‘Safe mode.’ Here you can start and stop the song as much as you want. After you sign the card with a lovely message, pull the activation tab inside the card which will activate the card. Then slide it into an envelope and deliver!”

Revealing why they decided to create this ridiculously annoying card, the brothers shared:
“We like to mess with our friends. This is an inexpensive and effective way to drive someone crazy: a card that won’t shut up unless it’s physically destroyed. Who wouldn’t want that? ‘Some people just want to watch the world burn’ says Alfred. We just want to laugh at our friends.”
Need even more proof of card’s “powers”? Here is a text message conversation from one of its victims.
Here are some tips that will help enhance the Joker Birthday Card experience:
- When you send your card, write something really special in it. The nicer the message the harder it will be for them to tear it up. If the kids send a card to grandma there’s no way she can tear that up.
- When you give your card at the party, be the first one. This way the card will not only drive your friend crazy as they open other presents, everyone else at the party who’s in on the joke can enjoy it too!
- Give the card to a friend staying at a hotel, preferably after dinner. This way when they open it they’ll have no escape when it’s still singing at 1am in the morning.
In regards to any future “products,” the brothers added:
“A Christmas card would be perfect! It is a perfect gift for the season of caring. And of course, we would like to update the Joker Birthday card so the design and song gets a refresh. And down the line we can work on Easter, Graduation, weddings, etc. We even have plans for a Joker Sympathy Card. On second thought… maybe not.”
Since its launch, the Joker Birthday Card has raised nearly $50,000 thanks to over 1,500 backers (aka the most sadistic people in the world). It is set to close on April 30th.
