Ready to unveil his latest project to fans, well-known video game designer/producer Koji Igarashi has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $500,000 for his creation, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
Bloodstained is a 2D exploration-focused, side-scrolling platformer that features RPG and crafting elements. Inside the game players are playing as Miriam, an orphan scarred by an alchemist curse, which is slowly crystalizing her skin. She battles her way through a demon-filled castle summoned by Gebel, an old friend whose body have become more crystal than flesh.
Sharing his thoughts about the game, Igarashi, who is known for his work on Castlevania and other video game projects, stated:
According to The Verge, Igarashi is said to be “very excited about exploring the paths a 2.5D style opens up within the classic Igavania formula. As he begins a new chapter of his career as a developer, he’s looking forward to trying things that will enhance, rather than detract from, that core gameplay.”
The media outlet also revealed that Bloodstained is being developed by Inti Creates, which is the studio behind other famous games including Mega Man and Mighty No. 9. Castlevania composer, Michiru Yamane has also jumped on the Bloodstained ship and will be creating the game’s soundtrack with Ippo Yamada, who is known for his work on Resident Evil.
The game is set to hit stores in March 2017 and will be available on Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Steam (PC/Mac/Linux). Those who back the video game’s project will receive a digital copy for $28.
Since its launch on Monday, Bloodstained has successfully raised $1.4 million from nearly 19,000 backers. It is set to close on June 12th.
