Rufus Labs Returns to Indiegogo With New Protective Exoskeleton For Wrist Communicator

Indiegogo success and wearable company Rufus Labs announced today the release of the Rufus Cuff EXO, a protective exoskeleton for the Rufus Cuff wrist communicator. Attaching the EXO to the Rufus Cuff body allows the wearable device to be water submersible, impact resistant and ruggedized for both consumer and industrial use.

Rufus LabsThe EXO provides protection while adding only 1.5 mm body thickness to the Rufus Cuff. The EXO will be completely water submersible for extended periods of time, without the need of a plastic screen cover, giving users access to the full 3.2 inch Gorilla Glass touchscreen. Optional screen skins for the Rufus Cuff can be used to provide added protection. With the EXO locked in place, the Rufus Cuff will still give users full access to the speaker, mics, camera and LED functionality.

In addition to everyday consumers, various enterprise workers can utilize the functionality of a full Android KitKat wrist worn device with ruggedized protection. In emergency situations, the EXO shields the Rufus Cuff from water, dust and harsh environments and allows first responders to utilize the Rufus Cuff’s 3.2 inch Capacitive Touchscreen to communicate with a full keyboard and access critical data. With add-on industrial bands made of reinforced Velcro, Kevlar and more, the Rufus Cuff can be customized to meet specific needs.

Gabe Grifoni, co-founder of Rufus Labs, stated:

Gabe Grifoni“This is an exciting step for us toward becoming the dominant force in wrist computing with a range of applications both consumer and industrial. The protective exoskeleton offers workers in a wide range of industries from warehouses to airports the ability to increase their efficiency through the hands-free functionality and water-, drop-, impact- and shock-proof protection. We made a device fit for a superhero and we’ve given it armor.”

The added protection of the EXO makes the Rufus Cuff an excellent companion for everyone from workers in harsh environments to extreme sports enthusiasts. Utilizing a 9-axis accelerometer/gyroscope/compass in addition to GPS, the Rufus Cuff can assist in everything from tracking runs and rides to jumps and flips. Users with an EXO on their Rufus Cuff will be able to stream live footage from their wearable camera to their wrist and access video functionalities in a range of conditions.

Rufus Cuff 2Touted as a wrist communicator, the Rufus Cuff is a wearable computer capable of running full apps, working standalone using its WiFi and connecting to other smart devices such as cameras, headphones, smartphones and speakers over Bluetooth.
