Kickstarter Alum “Mighty No. 9” Rumored to Be Delayed Once Again?

And… the wait continues for backers of highly anticipated Kickstarter Alum Mighty No. 9. Multiple sources have revealed that the game’s release date has been pushed back once again from Fall 2015 to … sometime in 2016?

Mighty No. 9 on KickstarterThe creators, Comcept USA and video game developer Keiji Inafune, took to the crowdfunding giant’s platform nearly two years ago with a missions to raise funds for Might No. 9. The game takes place in the year 2099 where humans have become dependent on robots not just for manual labor but also entertainment. The most powerful robots in the world fight in front of humans in a popular league called the Battle Colosseum.

BECK is a small combat robot made to fight in the Battle Colosseum as a part of the MIGHTY NUMBERS, the strongest robots in the world. But since Beck is the only robot in the world with a human heart, he’s also the only robot that gets scared in combat. The good news is that he also possesses the ability to turn into any other robot. The bad news is that since his emotions are wired to his abilities, he often finds himself malfunctioning in battle.

One day a notorious engineer named DR. BLACKWELL releases a virus that infects every robot in the world…everyone except Beck. Dr. Blackwell remotely controls the infected Mighty Numbers to lead a rebellion to destroy mankind. Beck suddenly becomes the only robot available to stop the Mighty Numbers.

Mighty No. 9As Beck tries to save the world, he will be joined by CALL, his overly serious robotic sidekick; DR. WHITE, the young but socially inept creator of the Mighty Numbers; and DR. SANDA, the lazy but wise team leader. With each of their help, Beck will learn how to deal with his emotions and become the hero they need him to be.

By the time the funding round was over, the campaign raised $3,845,170 from 67,226. The game was set to be released in Spring 2015 but then was pushed to September 15, 2015. Now, according to Game Rant, retailers recently shifted the release date to 2016. This was confirmed by publisher Deep Silver and suggests that the game was once again quietly delayed. Game Informer also shared that GameStop revealed that notification of delays such as this one are initiated by the publisher. Deep Silver has yet to comment on the situation.

Inafune and his team have also yet to officially declare the unfortunate news. The last update that was posted on the campaign was simply a survey follow-up. Backers have taken to the comment section to voice their concerns and question why there hasn’t be announcement quite yet (perhaps they are waiting until Monday when Red Ash’s Kickstarter comes to an end?)

If it ever releases, Mighty No. 9 will be available for PS4, Wii U, Xbox One at retail, and digital-only for PC, Ps3, Xbox 360, Mac, and Linux.
