De La Soul Releases New Single “Royalty Capes” As They Prepare For Kickstarter Album Launch (Video)

With nearly a month until De La Soul releases their highly anticipated Kickstarter album, And The Anonymous Nobody, the group has unveiled a new single track called Royalty Capes.

De La Soul 1Back in 2015, the hip-hop group, which consists of Vincent Mason, David Jude Jolicoeur, and Kelvin “Posdnous” Mercer, took to the crowdfunding giant with a mission to raise only $110,000 for their new album. Within only hours of its launch, the initiative successfully secured its initial goal and by the end of its round raised over $600,000.

The group announced a couple months ago that they were going to delay the album’s launch until later this summer. And the Anonymous Nobody will be officially be released on August 26th. Since the campaign’s closing, the band has unveiled five track EP to backers (which includes songs that reportedly didn’t make the album).

The group shared details about Royal Capes on Facebook earlier his week:

De La Soul 3Royalty Capes, produced by Dave aka Plug Too and mixed by Bob Power, is one of the first songs recorded during early jam sessions for and the Anonymous Nobody. Recording started at The Bomb Shelter and perfected at historic Vox Studios in LA with an unorthodox 9 bar loop of saxophone slowed down and reconstituted for Pos and Dave. It was one of those rare moments where he Dave wrote his part first. Dave said it just sounded like royalty walking in and he put his rhymes down and Pos followed his lead.”
