Crowdcube Alum Alchemiya Launches Stream Services on Amazon Prime Channels

Alchemiya, a premium online subscription-based video on demand platform for Muslim entertainment, announced on Thursday it is launching its stream services on Amazon Prime Channels.

Alchemiya 1Alchemiya aims to present the world’s best content about Muslim life; the positive side, showing the contributions of Islam and Muslim people to humanity, rather than what others see in the mainstream media. Alchemiya considerably made history by becoming the first Muslim media company to debut a public equity crowdfunding campaign. The company secured £117,320 from 153 investors through Crowdcube.

David Akhtar, CEO and founder of Alchemiya, revealed that Alchemiya was approached by Amazon and asked to join their platform, along with 70+ other channels, including HBO, Starz, Comedy Central and Showtime. The service is available to all Amazon Prime members for $5.99 per month, with a 7-day free trial. Amazon Channels is only live in the U.S. at the moment. Akhtar also shared:

“We predicted that one day Alchemiya would be offered as an optional choice along with other niche channels, such as sports, kids, horror, comedy and that consumers would prefer the opportunity to pay only for the channels they want, rather than the current cable/ satellite option of one price for many channels. It was good to see we got this right, when Amazon Prime announced that in addition to the content in the Prime library, they would offer customers a chance to select ‘add on’ channels, also known as the ‘create your own bundle’, or the ‘skinny bundle.’ This allows the customer the option of adding only the channels they want to watch, and so reduce their monthly ‘pay tv’ bill, and find dedicated channels that serve their interests.”

Navid AkhtarHe then added:

Alchemiya is committed to sharing the very best films, documentaries and lifestyle content from across the Muslim world, and from Muslims who live as minorities in the West. We now aim to increase the number of titles in our service and are currently negotiating with a number of global distributors, as well as commissioning new productions.”

The Alchemiya channel is now available for Prime customers.
