Kiva, the crowdfunding platform dedicated to connecting people through lending, announced the launch of its International Women’s Day campaign, Invest in Her.
While sharing details about the new campaign, the funding portal revealed it is looking to raise $3 million in loans to women by March 8th, which is International Women’s Day. Kiva is also offering 10,000 new visitors the chance to lend the equivalent of $25 on Kiva for free as part of the campaign. Those who back the campaign may choose which woman they wish to support, and small loans of $25 are collected until the borrower’s loan request is fully crowdfunded.
Here is how Kiva works:
- Choose a borrower: Read stories of women borrowers in the nearly 80 countries where Kiva works.
- Sign up and make a loan for free: The free trial funds allow users to send $25 to a woman of your choice at no cost to you (so long as you’re a new lender).
- Follow the woman’s progress: Users will get updates about the woman you supported, and repayments will go back to our generous sponsor.
- Repeat the cycle with user’s own funds: Kiva encourages users to lend their own $25 to support someone else, and continue to re-lend those repayments again and again.
