Update: The Funky Iron Company Completes First Seedrs Funding Round With More Than £135,000 in Funds

The Funky Iron Company, a UK-based company that designs, manufactures, and distributes of stylish, functional electric steam irons, successfully completed its first Seedrs crowdfunding round. The company originally sought to raise £100,000 and raised £137,852.

As previously reported, founders Joe and Sadie Sillett, revealed the company’s concept and development:

It’s a cliché but we had a eureka moment during a conversation in the car. It struck us that where other household appliances have used metal and colour to create style and individuality, this hasn’t happened with irons. Electric steam irons have a very similar look, unlike appliances such as kettles, toasters or food mixers. We believe there is a gap in the market for a stylish looking and highly functional iron that will appeal to a broad range of people who like well-designed products for their home. So we set about challenging the style and design to create an iron we think is beautiful. Not only have we challenged the look and design, we recognise that function and performance are vitally important, which is why the brief to the product designers we worked with was to create a Funky Iron which would have great functionality as well as eye-catching looks.”

The founders also noted they researched and discovered continuous steam function would allow iron ranges’ users to cut down their ironing time.

We also know that a long cord is very important for customers who like to steam curtains or vertical steam clothes, which is why the Funky Iron has a 3 metre cord. As well as the fantastic steam function, additional features are self-clean and water spray buttons; a unique trackball switch which doubles as both an on/off and steam up/down button; and a floating water level indicator ball.”

Funds from the campaign will be used to help launch the company’s iron range in the UK in summer 2017.
