Co-founded by CEO James Egan and COO Adrian Murphy in 2014, Shaw Academy is a UK-based online education provider which teaches a variety of subjects live through their bespoke software platform. Having taught over 4,000,000 students from all over the world, the platform is currently growing by 250,000 new students a month and now plan to scale globally. Pre-money valued at £83,659,116, Shaw Academy is seeking to raise £2,194,000 on Crowdcube for 2.56% equity. At this writing over 380 investors have signed up, already securing over £441K in the campaign’s first days. Funding will be used to bolster the team by adding new educators, developing more courses and entry into new markets, improving customer acquisition, conversions and retention.
“Everything we do educationally is live. We believe that we as humans learn far better in a structured, supportive, human, manner. This ‘live online’ component allows Shaw Academy to pioneer in the educational space as opposed to immediately producing historical and stale ‘library’ based, on-demand, content. It allows us to come to market with new techniques daily as opposed to yearly, leading industry, not following. We also believe in providing ‘full solutions’ to the needs of our audience, expanded far beyond the realm of solely education,” noted Egan on LinkedIn. “Everything we do is better because it is live. Every single iteration is critically and scientifically examined to assess how we could have better achieved our objectives and our users theirs’, be it in the realm of education or digital fulfilment, so as to improve everything every time and our ethos is simple and just that – Everything Gets Better Every Time – our education, our support, our technology, and most importantly, our students!”
Dublin-based Shaw Academy has partnered with many top-notch brands including GoDaddy, Adobe, Vodafone, Flipkart and, on 1 October, Shaw partnered with Deutsche Telekom and Adobe.

“…we expect to change 500,000 new students lives per month. We looked at all e-learning platforms on the market capable of allowing us to scale to millions of students online at any given time and remarkably, we found no such technology. So, we formed a team with what we believe to be some of the finest brains on the planet and we built our own, called Phoenix,” according to the campaign. “By the end of 2018, we anticipate that we will be teaching one million new students per month. We have taught, and are teaching more students monthly than any university and we are just getting started. We are set on educating 1 billion students globally with the goal to fundamentally disrupt the cost of education around the world.”
