Equity crowdfunding platform Crowdcube announced on Friday one of its and Seedrs’ successes, Mindful Chef, has been acquired by multinational food and drink giant, Nestle.
The company was founded by school friends Robert Grieg-Gran, Giles Humphries and Myles Hopper. It describes itself as a young company that makes healthy eating easy by delivering all the good-for-you ingredients to create meals. The brand offers gluten-free, organic produce with no refined carbohydrates to homes across the UK. Customers choose the recipes, Mindful Chef source and deliver the ingredients. The customer cooks the meal, saving time, and minimizing waste.
The company raised nearly £2 million through its Crowdcube campaign in 2017 and more than £1million on Seedrs in 2016. Crowdcube noted Mindful Chef became a B Corp Certified and sold more than five million meals to more than 100,000 customers, giving Crowdcube investors a 350% return on their investment. Speaking about the acquisition, Luke Lang, Crowdcube Co-Founder and CMO, stated:
“This is wonderful news for investors who’ve helped Mindful Chef to grow and succeed on its mission to make healthy eating easier for its customers. Against the backdrop of Covid and the reengineering of the high street, Mindful Chef embodies our new way of life and their raise with Crowdcube has enabled investors to vote with their feet, back a leading UK innovative company.”
The founders of Mindful Chef added:
“We owe a great deal to you, our early investors, who have backed our vision to make healthy eating easy for hundreds of thousands of people across the UK, and it is with great pleasure that we can now reward you for your support.”
Crowdcube noted that the sale will be finalized in the coming weeks with investors still eligible for EIS tax relief.
