Insurtech Superscript to Provide SME Insurance in Netherlands

Superscript, a UK-based Insurtech has commenced operations in the Netherlands – its first country outside of its home country.

According to a blog post, Superscript has been approved by Dutch regulators, the Authority for Financial Markets (AFM) and may now offer its services across Europe.

Superscript has established an office in Rotterdam as another step in its mission of “becoming a global leader in SME insurance.”

Superscript reports that its UK business has grown by 5X in the past two years.

Cam Shearer, co-founder and CEO of Superscript, explained that small businesses have been underserved by the European insurance industry:

“Particularly in the emerging tech space, finding access to the right advice and covers is exceptionally difficult and often carries high premiums. Superscript’s digital-first approach, underpinned by proprietary tech, is transforming this process for high-growth businesses.”

The Netherlands is said to be a natural next step as it is home to a thriving startup ecosystem, as well as a strong regulator and large insurance industry.

Superscript says it understands emerging tech like crypto and blockchain technology. It outlines its coverage areas as follows:

  • Professional indemnity insurance
  • Cyber insurance
  • Management liability
  • Crime insurance
  • Intellectual property insurance
  • Commercial combined insurance
  • Contents and equipment insurance
