StartEngine, one of the largest investment crowdfunding platforms in the US, is reporting that it has surpassed one million users. While this does not necessarily mean one million active investors, there should be a high correlation between registered users and investors.
StartEngine also shares that to date, it has enabled $650 million in online investments for private firms raising capital under Reg CF, Reg A+, and Reg D – although most of the funding is probably from the first two exemptions. The million registered users will include an email address that StartEngine can leverage to promote securities offerings listed online. This can be one of the larger benefits of raising capital online – the engaged audience a platform can bring to the equation.
StartEngine is in the midst of a self-crowdfunding round using Reg A+, a securities exemption that allows a firm to raise up to $75 million. Currently, the offering has raised over $8.24 million from more than 4100 individual investors at a pre-money valuation of $1.32 billion. StartEngine has raised money for itself in the past and that total is over $59 million.
StartEngine is on a mission to raise more than $10 billion for private firms by 2029. As private markets have become the new public markets, this number is not a stretch.
