A choppy venture capital and private equity market continues during November, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence.
The number of deals globally numbered 848 in November, down from October when 992 deals were reported. Last year’s November saw 1,192 deals completed.
In a slightly positive note, the total value of global private equity and VC entries increased for a second straight month in November to $47.07 billion, up 34% from October which registered $35.15 billion. The lowest month for 2023 was February, which reported $27.16 billion.
Looking at year-to-date numbers (November 30, 2023), the total deal value dropped 35.6% to $437.85 billion from $679.48 billion between January and November 2022. The number of deals fell to 11,015 from 15,938.
Europe delivered the largest amount of investment in November, with $24.72 billion, up from $14.17 billion in November 2022. North America was next with $14.94 billion, up from $12.16 billion in November 2022.
Full-year totals for VC – private equity could be the most anemic in years. In 2021, the aggregate deal amount was over $1.1 trillion. It will be surprising if 2023 generates half that amount.
