Switzerland’s eBill Surpasses 3 Million Users for the First Time

eBill has reportedly surpassed three million users for the first time.

More and more people in Switzerland are said to be “opting for the eBill digital invoice.”

At the end of February, SIX recorded “more than three million registered users for the first time.”

This is also reflected in the number of transactions: In 2023, the number of eBill transactions reached around 70 million, “a growth of more than 20% compared to the previous year.”

eBill is becoming more and more popular and widely used.

The largest user group is “between 30 and 39 years old, with the most significant growth of 15% among persons over 65.”

This means that senior citizens “are increasingly involved in digital payments.”

Overall, more than 40% of the 15- to 89-year-olds in Switzerland use eBill.

Therefore, it now reaches “more than half of Swiss households.”

With eBill, invoices arrive where they are paid: in online banking.

To stop receiving invoices by mail or e-mail, consumers can “log into their bank’s online banking system, activate eBill, and then check and pay invoices with just a few clicks.”

This offers advantages for both consumers and businesses.

Up to 95% of all Swiss financial institutions “offer eBill and actively promote it.”

Many invoice issuers already “use eBill, for example, leading telecom providers, health insurance companies, utilities, government agencies, and credit card companies. An increasing number of small and medium-sized businesses also use eBill.”

As covered, SIX says that it “operates and develops infrastructure services for the Swiss and Spanish Stock Exchanges, for Post-Trade Services, Banking Services and Financial Information with the aim of raising efficiency, quality and innovative capacity across the entire value chain of the Swiss and Spanish financial centers.”

The company is owned by its users (120 banks).

With a workforce of 4,044 employees and a presence in 20 countries, it has reportedly generated “operating income of CHF 1.5 billion and Group net profit of CHF 185.0 million in 2022.”
