UK’s PensionBee Bolsters Commitment to Retirement Security

Online pension provider PensionBee has recently made key announcements focused on commercial partnerships and its advocacy for pension reform, reinforcing its mission to simplify pensions and promote financial wellness.

The company’s latest developments include an extended sponsorship with Brentford Football Club, a call for action following the revival of the Pensions Commission, and recommendations for the Pension Schemes Bill, all of which underscore PensionBee’s dedication to fostering inclusivity and securing better retirement outcomes for UK savers.

PensionBee has solidified its relationship with Brentford Football Club, extending its partnership into the 2025/26 season, marking their fifth year of collaboration.

Initially established in 2021 ahead of Brentford’s inaugural Premier League season, this partnership has grown into a part of PensionBee’s community-focused strategy.

As part of the agreement, PensionBee will take on a role as the sleeve sponsor for Brentford’s women’s and academy teams’ matchday kits, while retaining in-stadium advertising and content creation rights for both the men’s and women’s teams.

This expansion builds on previous initiatives, such as PensionBee’s “Building the Future” series, which featured Brentford’s women’s and B team players discussing their careers and pension planning.

Fran Jones, Brentford’s Commercial Director, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing PensionBee’s role as a “fantastic partner” in supporting the club’s women’s teams and fostering fan engagement through matchday activations at Gtech Community Stadium and exclusive tours at the Robert Rowan Performance Centre.

This partnership not only enhances PensionBee’s visibility but also aligns with its mission to make pensions accessible and relatable, leveraging football’s broad appeal to connect with diverse audiences.

On July 21, 2025, PensionBee welcomed the UK government’s revival of the Pensions Commission, viewing it as a step toward addressing the looming retirement crisis.

Lisa Picardo, PensionBee’s Chief Business Officer UK, emphasized the urgency of reform, warning that “millions – including carers, the self-employed, women, and low-paid workers – risk sleepwalking into retirement poverty” without decisive action.

The company has highlighted systemic issues such as the gender pensions gap and chronic undersaving among certain groups, advocating for policies that ensure equitable retirement outcomes.

PensionBee’s call to action aligns with its broader mission to modernize the pension sector through a fintech-focused approach.

The company urged the government to implement bold reforms, such as lowering the auto-enrollment age to 18 and removing the earnings threshold, to close gaps in retirement savings, particularly for younger workers, part-time employees, and those in lower-paid roles.

By supporting these changes, PensionBee aims to create a more inclusive pension system that reflects the realities of today’s diverse workforce.

In response to the second reading of the Pension Schemes Bill 2024–25, PensionBee submitted proposals to UK lawmakers, advocating for a pension system that is fair, inclusive, and reflective of modern labor market dynamics.

The company stressed the need to extend auto-enrollment to gig economy workers, a growing demographic often excluded from traditional pension schemes.

Lisa Picardo noted:

“Lowering the age of enrollment to 18 and removing the earnings threshold altogether would help to close long-standing gender and income gaps in retirement savings.”

Additionally, PensionBee’s “Invisible Workers” campaign calls for reforms to include gig economy workers in auto-enrollment, ensuring that this vital segment of the workforce is not overlooked.

The company also proposed a “10-day Pension Switch Guarantee” to address the 17% increase in pension transfer times over the past three years, as revealed by their analysis of Origo’s Pension Transfer Index.

This initiative aims to rebuild consumer trust in the pension system by streamlining processes and enhancing efficiency.

PensionBee’s recommendations align with its data-driven approach, leveraging its analysis of over 50,000 defined contribution pension transfers to advocate for practical, consumer-focused reforms.

PensionBee’s recent activities demonstrate a commitment to community engagement and systemic change.

By deepening its partnership with Brentford FC, the company strengthens its brand visibility while enabling pension awareness among fans.

Simultaneously, its advocacy for the Pensions Commission and Pension Schemes Bill reflects a push to modernize the UK’s pension framework, ensuring it meets the needs of a diverse workforce.

As PensionBee continues to focus on enabling fintech solutions and support inclusive policies, it is hoping to remain a key player in building a future where everyone can look forward to a good retirement.
