Global Private Equity, Venture Capital Slowed in July

Private markets slowed in July, this is according to a report by S&P Global Market Intelligence.

According to their numbers, total private equity and venture capital declined by almost 7% in July, dropping from $56.44 billion in June to $52.59 billion in July.

When compared year over year, the decline was more dramatic, as in July 2024 $74.47 billion was raised.

The number of deals globally in July totaled 911, a decrease from the prior-month total of 1,103 and prior-year total of 1,232.

The report notes that even as private equity-backed deal activity slowed in July, data for the first seven months of the year remained ahead of the total for the corresponding period in 2024.

Global transaction value for the year 2024 through July 31 was $444.67 billion, 10% larger than the $403.13 billion in private equity-backed entries recorded in the year-ago period.

Application software was the most active sector.
