Bitcoin Pizza Day Highlights Importance of Purchasing Power, Financial Literacy

Everyone in the crypto and blockchain space is talking about Bitcoin Pizza Day because some random guy many years back actually paid 10,000 BTC for a few pizzas. At the time, though, Bitcoin was trading for a few cents or below $1. Back then, nobody could have imagined that one day Bitcoin would reach an all-time high of over $126,000. While there must be huge regrets now for paying so much just for pizza, this whole Bitcoin Pizza Day event highlights important and painful lessons in purchasing power and financial literacy.

You see, the opportunity cost of paying for pizza with such a large amount of Bitcoins, now worth billions, is unbelievably huge. The person who parted with their so-called magical Internet money at that time never truly realized the future (enormous) price appreciation of Bitcoin and now many other digital assets. While we cannot rewrite the past, we can definitely learn from others’ terribly painful lessons.

Currently, the Bitcoin price has dropped dramatically from an all-time high of over $126,000 set on October 6, 2025, to only around $74,000 at the time of writing.

However, Bitcoin price can be very deceptive because it fluctuates extremely wildly, which is a major fear factor amongst many of the newcomers to the crypto space. But more experienced long-term holders (or Hodlers) know that the flagship cryptocurrency will only appreciate massively in the long-term if it continues to follow previous market cycles.

Moreover, bitcoin maximalists argue that BTC has no top because fiat has no bottom. So, as the world’s fiat currencies continue to get debased, this whole Bitcoin Pizza Day event serves as an important reminder to us all that a truly decentralized, permissionless digital asset is worth holding if you have acquired it somehow over the years.

Even if you are not aggressively buying Bitcoin on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, you may consider holding onto whatever little amount of the digital asset you have instead of using it to pay for something like pizza.
