Binance.US Plans CFTC Filing to Launch Prediction Markets Platform

Binance.US is taking steps to broaden its product lineup in the United States by pursuing regulatory approval for a prediction markets offering. At the Rare Evo conference in Las Vegas, the exchange’s chief executive, Stephen Gregory (also known as Stevie Satoshi), stated that the firm intends to submit an application to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) in August for designation as a Designated Contract Market. This disclosure came during an on-stage discussion.

A subsequent confirmation from a company spokesperson aligned with the remarks.

Obtaining DCM status would enable Binance.US to list event-based contracts, along with futures and options, for retail participants under federal supervision.

Such contracts allow trading based on the results of future events, including economic data releases, political outcomes, sports contests, and other real-world occurrences.

The prediction markets sector has expanded quickly. CFTC-regulated platforms, including Kalshi and Polymarket’s US operations, currently dominate activity.

Rival crypto exchanges have also moved into the space Gemini secured a comparable license earlier in the year, and Coinbase has teamed up with Kalshi to deliver event contracts.

An approved entry by Binance.US would introduce another competitor into this growing field.

The planned filing supports a larger effort by Binance.US to regain ground.

Operating as a distinct entity from the global Binance platform, the U.S. exchange experienced a sharp drop in market share after earlier regulatory actions involving the wider Binance organization.

Current leadership has focused on recovery measures that include reduced trading fees and diversification beyond simple spot cryptocurrency trading.

Discussions have previously pointed to interest in retail derivatives, perpetual contracts, and event-driven products as avenues for restoring user interest and liquidity.

CFTC requirements for a Designated Contract Market demand adherence to core principles covering market monitoring, investor safeguards, adequate financial resources, record maintenance, technical protections, and controls against conflicts or market abuse.

At the time of the conference comments, no application from Binance.US had appeared on the agency’s public roster of pending DCM submissions, matching the indicated August timeline.

Approval remains uncertain, and no concrete launch schedule for any new products has been shared.

The CFTC has not issued any statement on the prospective filing.

Interest in regulated prediction markets continues to rise across the industry, with volumes on authorized platforms increasing and a larger number of event contracts receiving certification.

Greater clarity around US derivatives rules has prompted additional crypto firms to explore similar offerings. If successful, the initiative would represent meaningful progress for Binance.US in rebuilding its domestic footprint through an expanded set of supervised services.
