Prediction Markets: Little Change in Expectation for USA vs. Belgium Match After Florian Balogun Reinstatement

The Red Card given to Team USA striker Florian Balogun has been debated ad-nauseam online and on social media. On one side, the Red Card is deemed to be a bad call and a suspension of Balogun undeserved. On theFlorian BalogunFlorian Balogun other, the Red Card should stand and the US used influence to get the suspension suspended.

Belgium has been granted the right to appeal the decision and the Union of European Football Associations has slammed the change as “incomprehensible and unjustifiable decision.”

The fact is there is always drama in professional sports and FIFA/World Cup competition is no different.

So with the star Balogun back in the game, what do prediction markets anticipate?

On Kalshi, the marketplace has always seen the game as very close. Prior to the Red Card, USA victory was at 52% and Belgium at 48%. Following the suspension, the expectations tightened with Belgium gaining a very slight edge. With Balogun reinstated, Team USA is again slightly favored, currently at 53% to 47%.

On Polymarket, the story is similar within a tight range. Belgium gained a slight advantage after the suspension at 38% to USA’s 34% with 30% expecting a draw. Afer it was decided Balogun would play, the US is back to having a slight edge at 39% with Belgium at 35% and a draw 28%.

In effect, it is pretty much a statistical dead heat.

Will Balogun’s talent help Team USA? Absolutely. But Belgium is no pushover club and it takes a team to win.

The match is at 8PM ET tonight when the world will learn if the US or Belgium move forward.
