Experian has enhanced its ChatGPT application to give United Kingdom consumers direct, secure access to their individual credit scores. Announced on 20 August 2026, this update represents the first occasion on which people in the UK can retrieve their authentic, account-linked Experian Credit Score through an AI interface.
Previously, conversational AI systems could only supply broad, publicly sourced explanations of credit scoring that often lacked precision or personal relevance.
The improved Experian app within ChatGPT addresses this limitation by connecting users to their genuine 1250-scale Experian Credit Score.
Once an individual links their Experian account, the score appears rapidly inside a dedicated, secure widget.
Users can also review a transparent explanation of the factors that influence the calculation, monitor changes in their score and its associated band over time, and examine a side-by-side comparison of current account options—all without exiting the chat conversation.
Security and privacy form the foundation of the design.
Credit information remains confined to Experian’s authenticated, logged-in environment and is never shared with or processed by the underlying AI model when it generates replies.
Anyone seeking more detailed analysis, including a complete credit report and practical suggestions for improvement, is guided to Experian’s own mobile application or website.
The timing reflects shifting consumer habits. Nearly two-thirds of regular ChatGPT users already rely on AI tools to advance their financial objectives.
Experian research further indicates that 91 percent of such users would consider an Experian ChatGPT app useful, while 86 percent would trust it, with privacy emerging as the primary concern shaping that confidence.
Younger adults aged 18 to 34 are particularly relevant: 38 percent list improving their knowledge of personal finance among their leading goals, yet they are among the least likely groups to have reviewed their credit scores.
Experian’s role in the UK lending landscape underscores the practical value of the feature.
The company underpins the majority of lending decisions, including eight out of ten credit card applications.
Providing easier access to one of the key metrics lenders evaluate therefore helps consumers gain clearer insight into their financial standing.
Edu Castro, Managing Director of Experian Consumer Services for the UK and Ireland, emphasised the broader intent: the company aims to meet people on the platforms they already use daily and to supply accurate, personalised information rather than generic responses.
By embedding trusted score data inside ChatGPT, Experian seeks to expand financial education and create a seamless route for users to take further action through its established channels.
This development builds on earlier Experian experiments with ChatGPT that offered only aggregated, anonymised benchmarks by postcode and age.
The latest upgrade moves from contextual averages to fully authenticated personal data, marking a clear evolution in how credit information can be delivered.
As AI continues to become a primary destination for everyday questions, initiatives of this kind illustrate how established financial-data providers can integrate securely into conversational platforms, potentially increasing engagement—especially among younger demographics—while maintaining rigorous privacy standards.
