The next Crowdfunding Asia event, originally scheduled to take place next week in Jakarta, Indonesia, has been postponed until later this year. According to event organizers this was to accommodate the schedule of President Joko Widodo who was expected to make an appearance and open the event in a rare endorsement of the importance of internet finance for the entrepreneurial sector of the economy.
According to HongSin Kwek, CEO and founder of PhoenixICT, the event organizers;
“As this is the first crowdfunding summit planned specifically for Indonesia aligning to the nine priorities of the administration, the President’s participation was deemed vital. BPPT asked to postpone the event when they may be more certain of his participation. Presently we are looking at after Indonesia’s National Day and Ramadan.”
As part of his election platform, President Widodo had emphasized an agenda of nine priorities for the country. Last year he published a document outlining his vision for the future of Indonesia including the need to improve people’s productivity and competitiveness in the international market so that Indonesian can move forward and stand up with other Asian nations. Crowdfunding is viewed as a catalyst towards this goal.
While no firm date has been announced as of yet organizers are now looking at dates in late August.
