Glyph Mobile Personal Theater Closes at $1.5 Million on Kickstarter

Glyph Mobile Personal Theater plus Audio closed their crowdfunding round on Kickstarter this past week having raised $1,509,506 from 3,331 backers. The hardware from Ann Arbor, Michigan based Avegant now stands as one of the most successful rewards based crowdfunding campaigns of 2014.  Glyph set a goal of raising $250,000 – an amount that was easily topped in under 48 hours.  The Glyph device is worn like headphones but also has an accompanying personal “virtual retina” display technology that utilizes one million micro mirrors for each eye generating a vivid, lifelike image unlike traditional screen viewing technology.  The product was widely anticipated as Avegant spent considerable time generating buzz surrounding their product which aided in the overwhelming success of their crowdfunding campaign that raised over 6 times their goal.  Presales of the device will continue on the Avegant web site where “baseline units” are available at the same price of the Kicktarter campaign.

The Glyph headsets are expected to ship December 2014.  The product has event received the tacit endorsement of none other than Snoop Dogg who stated, “This is even better than looking at real life”.  What would we do without Snoop Dogg.
