Unbelievable: Weighted Blanket “Gravity” Surpasses $3 Million in Two Weeks on Kickstarter

Just two weeks after New York entrepreneur, John Florentino, launched a Kickstarter campaign for his weighted blanket, Gravity, the project scored $3 million from more than 15,000 backers. The initiative was launched at the end of April, seeking to raise only $21,500.

As previously reportedGravity is described as a weighted blanket that is engineered to be 10% of your body weight to naturally reduce stress and increase relaxation. It is a 48″ by 78,” premium-grade, therapeutic weighted blanket that “harnesses” the power of deep touch stimulation to gently distribute deep pressure across your body, which helps relax the nervous system by simulating the feeling of being held or hugged. According to the campaign, this kind of simulation notably increases serotonin and melatonin levels and decreases cortisol levels – improving your mood and promoting restful sleep at the same time. Fiorentino revealed:

“Though weighted blankets have been used in the medical community for many years now, the measurable health benefits have only recently begun to emerge in scientific studies. So far, the findings have been incredible. Gravity uses the power of proprioceptive input (more commonly known as “deep touch pressure stimulation”), a well regarded therapeutic method that stimulates pressure points on the body linked to improved sleep, mood, and relaxation. The result is a reduction in cortisol levels and an increase in serotonin production, which decreases heart rate and blood pressure.”

Backers of the project can receive the blanket starting at $189 ($90 off retail). Estimated delivery is now for October, just time for chilly fall weather. The campaign is set to close on May 30th.
