Pebble Does Not Disappoint with New Version Smartwatch: Pebble Steel

Pebble Steel 3xAnnounced today during a special briefing at CES, Eric Migicovsky Pebble CEO and founder, revealed their 2nd version of the famous smartwatch.  The Pebble Steel, their premium version watch,  may be ordered today for $249.00 (ships in three weeks from today).  Simultaneously Pebble announced their very own App store.

The Steel, as one would assume, is made of marine grade stainless steel paired with a Gorilla Glass screen.  The watch is waterproof up to 5 ATM and comes with both a leather and metal band.  Migicovsky claims battery power is the same as the previous version and they have gone out of their way to maintain the great connectivity experienced from their first version smartwatch.

Pebble App StoreThe video shares some demos of various apps including Pandora, ESPN, Yelp, Mercedes, GoPro, Square and of course all of the  notifications everyone expects.

Migicovsky claims to be creating the gold standard for wearable tech.  To keep the independent app developers going they have donated 4000 watches to computer science and engineering students through the Pebble Education Program.

Eric MigicovskyWith over 300,000 smartwatches on wrists around the world, Pebble has captured the imagination and momentum surrounding the wearable tech.  Even trumping the maligned Samsung  Galaxy Gear.

Pebble first caught the attention of the tech world when they crowdfunded over $10 million on Kickstarter in 2012.  The startup company when on to receive another $15 million from VC’s in 2013.
