Omate Releases Images Of New Generation Smartwatch, Kickstarter Backers Go Ballistic

Omate TrueSmart

Pro tip: If you want to leak out pictures of your company’s new and improved smartwatch, make sure you don’t have a bunch of crowdfunding deliveries hanging over your head.

This is the problem Omate is forced to deal with now. The following Facebook post shared pictures of the Omate TrueSmart Elegance smartwatch, which is said to be 30% lighter than the original TrueSmart. Omate raised over $1 million on Kickstarter for the original TrueSmart in a campaign that ended on September 20, 2013. Devices were supposed to ship in November of last year, but that didn’t happen. Some – but not all – backers still haven’t received their watches, and those backers aren’t all too happy to see Omate’s progress.

As one Facebook commenter laments, “This is a complete slap in the face to all your kickstarter backers who are still waiting on the product that was purchased and charged back in September of 2013. Instead of showing new innovations, how about focusing the entire amount of resources of your company on producing and shipping out the products that are owed…..the products that are payed for and helped pay your R&D to come up with this aluminum series.”

Oops.
