The Pono Music campaign continues to ascend Kickstarter’s all-time most funded list. The “end-to-end ecosystem for music lovers” has garnered nearly 15,000 backers at the time of writing and had raised just short of $5 million.
Thanks everyone for all of your support. It has been and continues to be gratifying to me to see how many of you are supporting Pono and our revolution in the way people can listen. Now we will have a choice that is as convenient as it is great sounding. We are celebrating our Freedom of Choice.Neil Young
This is a big deal for Kickstarter and rewards-based crowdfunding. The space had been in a bit of a drought with regards to big multi-million dollar campaigns, and with all of the banter and vitriol surrounding the recent Oculus acquisition this just goes to show that there is still an appetite for hardware-related crowdfunding campaigns no matter what the pundits want to believe.
So where does this campaign rank? Fourth, right behind Veronica Mars on the all-time Kickstarter list. Rob Thomas and friends raised a hair over $5.7 million. With 18 days left to go in the campaign, the Pono Music campaign seems to have a real shot at overtaking that raise.
From there it gets a little harder, with recently embattled Ouya at over $8 million and Pebble at over $10 million. Still, a crazy accomplishment for the team at Pono.
