Looks like New York City fans of Top Chef sensation, Carla Hall, are going to be able to enjoy her delicious southern cuisines! The American chef and television personality hit crowdfunding giant, Kickstarter, earlier this month to raised $250,000 so that she may open her Southern Kitchen restaurant to life. Not only did her project scored its initial goal, at its closing 1,550 backers pitched in $264,703.
As previously reported on Crowdfund Insider, Hall stated, “At Carla Hall’s Southern Kitchen, you’ll find slow-cooked, fast-served food that hugs you. A neighborhood eatery serving up old-fashioned southern goodness. You’ll be welcomed like family and soon feel right at home.”
“My Nashville-inspired “spot next door” will take you back to my sweet ole’ Granny’s kitchen–the place my love of food started and what made me the chef I am today. I’m bringing the full-of-love, southern Nashville goodness to you, and done right!”
For those who have no idea what Nashville hot chicken really is, Hall shared, “It’s a unique twist on southern fried chicken, traditionally fried in an iron skillet and then tossed in a spicy cayenne paste. Slow brined, brushed with my secret hot oil recipe, and crisped to perfection. You’ll find it served simply, on a slice of white bread with a dill pickle.”
While the fans were completely excited about Hall opening the restaurant, they also started to wonder exactly why she decided to launch after years of saying she wasn’t interested. During a recent interview with the Washington Post, she noted, “Somehow in my head, a restaurant meant fine dining. It meant sit-down. I wasn’t interested in that, but somehow a ‘meat and three’ felt like home.”
In order to get the project off the ground, Hall teamed up with investment banker and found of Naomi Road Capital Advisors, Jerry Levin. While discussing Hall’s restaurant adventure, Levin explained, “We all know that Carla’s energy and enthusiasm is infectious. And this restaurant concept outside of Nashville is fresh, appealing and sorely lacking. But I couldn’t back something that I did not believe in, and I could not believe more in this menu, dining experience and the soul that Carla and her family bring to it. Our tastings continue to validate that I’m not the only one that feels this way!”
During the final hours of the campaign, Hall took to the campaign’s update section and wrote, “I am SO INCREDIBLY THANKFUL for all the love and support you have shown since Day 1. We are so close to our goal. I know we are going make it! What puts a smile on my face everyday is knowing that your names will be on the Founder’s Wall! And we got to reach the goal to make that happen.”
