With nearly two weeks until their final album’s crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter comes to an end, the ladies of TLC have received news that Virgin Records’ chief creative officer, Ron Fair, has been dubbed the record’s executive producer.
Crowdfund Insider reported that the TLC ladies, Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, took the crowdfunding giant to receive $150,000 for their fifth and final studio album. They wrote,”We owe so much of our success to you. Your loyalty and support throughout the past 20 years motivates us to do our best work. Without you, we wouldn’t have ten top 10 singles and four number 1 singles. We wouldn’t have won five Grammy awards or sold 65 million records worldwide. Without you, we wouldn’t have become the most successful girl group of all time! Without you there would be no TLC!!
“This album, our FINAL ALBUM, is dedicated to all of you that have stuck with us, always challenging us to do our best. And of course, it’s for the new fans too! 😉 We just want to put out great music that touches everyone. That’s it. Our final album will stay true to the TLC sound, always confronting the real issues and life experiences that we all must face every single day, everywhere. We write music that people relate to…timeless music. No matter the trends, we feel like our music is always relevant.”
TLC started in the early 90’s and became a huge sensation throughout the years thanks to their popular hip hop tunes. Unfortunately, the all-girl group experienced a devastating situation in the early 2000’s when bandmate, Lisa “Left-Eye” Lopes, died in a car accident. The ladies since have been in and out of the music scene over the years, but are now ready to answer their fans’ prayers with a new album that features new music.
One of the high funding donors of the project, music sensation Katy Perry, gave $5,000, which gives her a slumber party with T-Boz. TMZ reported that Perry has apparently been a huge fan of TLC and immediately gave to the campaign.
According to FDRMX, Fair has agreed to be the executive producer of the high anticipated album, which according to Chilli is currently still in the works. During her recent interview with Billboard magazine, Chilli stated the group is still searching for songwriters and music producers.
The bandmate did mention that Dallas Austin has confirmed to be one of the songwriters and producers. Austin is known for writing and producers for some of the all-girl group’s popular hits such as Ain’t 2 Proud 2 Beg, Creep, and Unpretty.
Fair has notably worked with other famous artists, which include Mary J. Blige, Christina Aguilera, the Black Eyed Peas, and Keyshia Cole.
