ioLight & The Eden Project Form a #FundedClub Collaboration

On Monday, Crowdcube announced #FundedClub members, ioLight and The Eden Project, have teamed up for a special collaboration.

The equity crowdfunding platform stated:

Iolight“Eden Project are enthusiastic supporters of fellow #FundedClub member ioLight and were excited by the opportunity to test the ioLight microscope. ioLight, which raised £242,180 thanks to 249 investors last year, has invented a high resolution portable microscope which displays images directly onto your tablet or mobile phone, and is the first of its kind in the world. The Eden Project, which itself raised £1.5 Million through Crowdcube with the help of 354 investors in 2014, is an educational charity and visitor attraction in Cornwall, famous for its biomes housing the world’s largest rainforest in captivity.”

Gabi Gilkes, Science Programme Manager at The Eden Project, shared with Crowdcube:

“We were really excited when we got to play with the ioLight microscope. It really feels like it might be the future of personal microscopy and we are really looking forward to having it here as part of our program.”

It was also noted that scientists and technicians at the Eden Project have some ideas of how to incorporate this technology into their exhibitions, including:

  • Eden Project Bio DomesShowing microscopic samples to visitors on TV monitors in their human microbiome exhibition
  • Making displays for young children easier to see using the ioLight microscope, and helping to overcome current issues with spreading conjunctivitis between children
  • Helping in the Eden Project’s process to carefully quarantine new plant stock, ensuring specimens are free of disease and parasites before they are introduced to the biomes.
