Fathom Drones, a Michigan-based drone startup, has launched a Reg CF campaign on Nextcapital, seeking funds as it prepares to expand. Founded in 2014, Fathom’s team has technical backgrounds range from mechanical, to electrical, to software engineering. They also have entrepreneurial experience through the Yale Entrepreneurial Institute, the Hope College Entrepreneurial Institute, and the Emerge Xcelerate program.
“The world’s smallest underwater drone is ready to go with you. With a patent pending modular thruster system, Fathom One is the only underwater drone built to travel and explore the world. Record HD 1080p videos while you dive. Download and share them later. The Fathom One saves files on board so you don’t have to. Swim at up to 3 knots. Connect the Fathom Tether for realtime video and control. Use it as a safety line for a confident dive. Safely dive down up to 150 feet with live pitch feedback, depth measurement, compass direction, and an automated return-to-surface mode.”
Fathom recently raised $197,943 from 656 backers through its reward-based crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter and was part of the Techstars Mobility Class of 2017.
“Fathom is creating new ways to explore the underwater world. By connecting with the Fathom One, people can experience what happens under the surface first-hand, share those experiences with others, and enjoy the waves even more.”
“Fathom was an excellent addition to the Techstars Portfolio. We look for companies that push the boundaries of current technology and create ways to capture the imagination. Fathom’s underwater drone does that.”
All funds from the latest funding round will be used to continue the drone company’s expansion and growth. It is set to close later this winter
