Commissioner Mark Uyeda has been designated the Acting Chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) following the inauguration of President Donald Trump and the exit of the Biden Administration.
Former SEC Chairman Gary Gensler officially exited his leadership role at the Commission on the same day.
Uyeda should hold the Chairman’s position for a brief period as Trump has selected Paul Atkins, a former SEC Commissioner, to lead the nation’s top securities regulator.
Uyeda has been a solid supporter of common sense regulation and innovation during his tenure as a Commissioner. His current term is scheduled to expire in 2028. Uyeda was previously the securities counsel for previous Ranking Member Pat Toomey on the Senate Banking Committee and as a policy advisor to senior leadership at the US Department of the Treasury in 2017-2018 and the U.S. Department of Labor in 2020. He also advised former Commissioners, including Atkins and former Chair Jay Clayton.
