Potato Salad Kickstarter Creator Begins Shipment of Cookbooks

Potato SaladZack “Danger” Brown, the creator of the 2014 Potato Salad Kickstarter, announced last week his cookbook, The Peace, Love & Potato Salad Cookbook, is now being shipped to backers. In July, Brown stated the cookbook, which was co-written with Teresa Blackburn, was created for those who pitched in $50 towards the Kickstarter campaign, which successfully secured over $55,000 in August 2014.

The book’s description reads:

“What happens when you appeal to Kickstarter to fund your first attempt at making a bowl of potato salad? Well, if you’re Zack Brown, you end up raising $55,492, a story that goes viral, a charity-minded “PotatoStock” Festival, and, eventually, a kick-ass potato salad cookbook to delight the taste buds of the masses. The Peace, Love & Potato Salad Cookbook is the result of one man’s attempt at making potato with the help of almost 7,000 backers from around the world.”

The funds weren’t all just spent on making a potato salad, though. Brown went on to hold “PotatoStock2014” – a giant Potato Salad themed event which was held in Columbus, Ohio that gave back to the Central Ohio homeless community. Speaking about his Kickstarted experience, Brown recently shared:

Zach Brown“There are no black-and-white answers for why something becomes popular on the internet. I think it had something to do with the fact that it had a backlash, then another backlash, then a backlash to that backlash and so on. When people hear that I was asking for money on Kickstarter to crowdfund a potato salad, there was an initial reaction. Then when people saw that others were giving money to it, every dollar added seemed to make it bigger, crazier, and more outrageous. It just kept building and building.”
