Wireless Apple iPhone charger iQi crowdfunding on Indiegogo was scheduled to end their campaign this weekend but organizers have decided to extend the campaign by 30 days. The funding goal was originally set to raise $30,000 but that was easily passed and stands at over $76,000 today.
iQi Mobile is a wireless charging receiver with a lightning connector attached via an ultra-thin flexible ribbon cable. The iQi Mobile charges your iPhone conveniently through the lightning connector, that disappears behind your soft iPhone case. With the growing number of devices inhabiting our day to day existence we are all inundated with the need to keep them totally charged. This demand has led to an over abundance of different charging cables which litter our rooms. iQi Mobile has elegantly dealt with one of the most popular devices – the Apple iPhone – by providing technology that makes it easy to eliminate at least one cable in our existence. Clearly one day the need for cables will subside. But until that day arrives it looks like iQi has a hit on their hands.
In a message to their backers iQi Mobile explained their shift in extending the campaign:
Happy Thanksgiving to all our American iQi Mobile funders. We are thankful to all of our funders.
We are really excited that the iQi Mobile is selling out like turkeys on Thanksgiving night! So we are making some updates to ensure everyone can get one!
Extending the campaign
We are extending the campaign by 30 days to give everyone the opportunity to get the iQi Mobile at the preorder price.
From this point on we are sending all the free referral reward iQi Mobile bundles in January.
Since iQi Mobile perks for Christmas delivery are selling quickly, we have added perks which will be delivered in early 2014.
We have already started the wheels churning but we did not expect the initial demand to be so high. We have set limits on perks to avoid disappointment with fulfilling these orders. We understand how important this time of year is and so anyone that has ordered before Christmas will get the perk they funded.
iQi is a pretail campaign. For some categories crowdfunding platforms have clearly become stores where users purchase in advance products which may not exist elsewhere. Usually these products are innovative concepts tackling needs that had previously remained unaddressed. Pretail campaigns allow the organizer to gage demand and accurately order the exact amount of the product from the manufacturer. These pretail offerings not only create an efficient demand estimate but act to market a new product and allow small companies to establish their viability in a crowded marketplace.
The iQi Mobile charger was developed by Fonesalesman located in the UK. The company was launched last year and their campaign on Indiegogo has aided in raising their profile to a much larger audience.
