VibeWrite Overfunds on Seedmatch: AppSolutely Versatile Pen for School, Work & Gaming

VibeWrite, the digital pen that independently recognizes handwriting and in conjunction with a vast number of  VibeWrite_Logo_ISapplications, is set to close on Seedmatch today. Having raised over  € 565K over the course of its campaign, the startup surpassed its initial crowdfunding goal of € 184,750 by 565% with the help of 547 investors.

11_VibeWrite_3FoundersLed by the inventor and CEO of VibeWrite is Falk Wolsky, a software developer and e-commerce professional. Wolsky is responsible for strategy, finance and product know-how. Co-Founder Daniel Kaesmacher is a merchant for marketing communication and text-concept designer and CSQO Alexander Hanke an experienced Quality Assurance Manager for Consumer Electronics. Hanke worked as a test manager for quality assurance for various products and services at O2 Germany.

How does VIBEWRITE? “The pin inserted a mini-computer with advanced motion sensors and the power of a vibewritesmartphone. It’s called an embedded system (a small Linux computer). Using these sensors, as well as many mathematical calculations we recognize the movement of the pen tip. The motion data we pass to the world’s best handwriting recognition software that we use licensed. The same system is utilized worldwide in all Samsung smartphones and tablets. A web-based (RESTful) developer interface allows easy access to the transaction data and the recognized characters and words, so that software developers can build a variety of applications around the pin – from mobile apps on PC software to online services.”

The campaign explains how VIBEWRITE generates sales:

  •  Manufacture and sale of pens: VibeWrite pens  are made and sold  at a fair price to business and residential 04_VibeWrite_AppsDiversecustomers. We have achieved an average gross profit margin of 40%.
  •  Apps as an additional revenue channel: In addition to the proceeds from the sale of the pens, we achieve further revenue from app sales and digital services that are additionally comprise up to 30% of hardware revenues.
  •  Global market, global demand: With the VibeWrite products – especially the learning pen – we entered a global market with hundreds of millions of users one in which there is a large demand, but no comparable solution. From the beginning, the demand has been international.
  • VibeWrite Webshop: Our webshop sells the first two small series across the EU already for the retail price of 99 euros. 2014, half the pens were sold through the webshop.
  • Trade: In autumn 2014, we will take the first step in the German trade – eg, via the Consumer Electronics segment. Another distribution channel are O2 stores. We have easy access to this international channel partner with the Telefónica Group (O2 in Germany).  Our recent international trade contacts have about 19,000 sales outlets. We expect that in the coming years in each of these stores average about 50 pens are sold per month. This would mean an annual number of 11.4 million pens.
