Toronto-based startup Code4Armour launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo that invites people across North America to pre-order its service. Setting out to only receive $50,000, campaign reached 25% of its overall funding goal within the first six hours. The project is set to trigger awareness for the life-saving service that benefits people with special medical needs.

Code4Armour 6According to the campaign’s website, Code4Armour is a wearable medical band and app that speaks to first responders and giving them instant access to critical Personal Health Information. This offers peace of mind that your loved ones are always protected and giving responders hands free service so they can save lives.

Using Code4Armour is easy and simple, first responders simply tap the patient’s Code4Armour band with a mobile device and within seconds they will be provided with the patient’s critical personal health information. The information is then broadcasted over the device’s speaker through Code4Armour’s VitalSpeak technology.

Below shows how Code4Armour works:

Code4Armour 5Other benefits for using Code4Armour are:

  • Visiting a walk-in clinic: Medical history is always with the user, which will ensure they will receive the care they really need
  • Getting new prescription: Shows the pharmacist what the user is currently taking and what allergies they may have to certain medications
  • Traveling: If something where to happen, Code4Armour will provide insurance numbers and medical history anytime, anywhere

Michael EganCEO of Code4Armour, Michael Egan stated,”The public has spoken. We have been working on developing this service for over a year now and we are pleased with the level of support we received right out of the gate. We know the positive impact Code4Armour will have in making First Responders more effective in saving lives. It’s wonderful to see the same recognition from the public.”

The crowdfunding campaign features a variety of flexible funding options including the $10 “First Responder” tier, $36″Solo” tier, $66 “Twofer Pack” $126 “Family Pack” and more. Supporters can also ‘gift’ Code4Armour to deserving families through special needs organizations that have partnered with the Company.

Code4Armour 1Code4Armour was created due to founder Mark Litman’s personal experience as a frontline paramedic. Having attended thousands of medical emergencies, Litman knows first-hand that a First Responder’s biggest challenge is arriving on the scene of an accident and not having critical information on the patient that could help save their life. This gets magnified when the patient has special medical needs. Code4Armour delivers the patients Personal Health Information to First Responders, hands-free, in seconds, at the exact time it’s needed.

The medical band has been working with the 52 EMS services across Ontario implementing pilot programs with a goal to have every service in Ontario utilizing Code4Armour by the end of the year. In addition to a previously announced partnership with the United Way York Region, Code4Armour™ has already been well-received by leaders at various associations dealing with Autism, Epilepsy, Alzheimer’s, Heart, Stroke, retirement homes and private medical providers.

Set to close on November 9th, the campaign has already raised $17,846 from 81 backers.
