UK’s Game Show The Crystal Maze Hits Indiegogo in Hopes of Returning to Television

Nineties fan favorite, The Crystal Maze, is ready to return to the small screen! The popular UK game show appeared on crowdfunding platform Indiegogo with a mission to raise £500,000 to bring itself back to its former glory as a “live immersive experience.”

The creators of the new campaign, Little Lion Entertainment, stated:

The Crystal Maze 5“You’ll get to play the maze just as contestants did on the original show – placing you at the centre of the action. What we really want, is for people to live the magic of the hit television programme for themselves. We will be lovingly recreating the famous set just as it was on the original show. All four famous zones will be present; Aztec, Medieval, Industrial and Futuristic, not forgetting of course, The Crystal Dome!

“We are delighted to be announcing the return of none other than the legendary Maze Master himself, Richard O’Brien! Richard won’t be running around the maze himself, but he will be welcoming guests in time honoured fashion… to find out how, you’ll just have to come along and see!”

The company revealed that audience members will compete in teams that are guided by their own personal “Maze Master.” Then each contestant will play games that will test their intelligence, skills, physical abilities, and “mystery.” At the end of the rounds, each team will be rewarded for the amount of games they have won by converting crystals into precious time inside the “Dome.”

The Crystal Maze 4Then the contestants will be invited to form teams of 8. 4 teams (named Aztec, Future, Industrial, Medieval) will then enter a maze at once and will move through each zone before regroup at the end to take on the Dome. Depending on how many crystals each group has collected, the contestant will have their allotted time in the Dome to collect as many golden tickets as possible.

Those that back the project will receive rewards such as early bird ticket (£30), one ticket to the show (£45), two tickets to the show (£85), opening party (£100), red carpet (£5,000) and one day in the maze (£10,000).

Since its launch, the show’s campaign has successfully raised nearly half of its funding goal thanks to over 2,300 backers. It is set to close mid-July.
